The name Chihuahua comes from Mexico City, is connected with South America, but we are not sure where it comes from exactly. They are probably the dog’s ancient progeny similar but bigger Techichi dogs.
There are a few theories about them – that they were eaten, another that they were part of the religion or that they live wild in the montains of Mexico.
Some Chihuahuas weigh less than 1kg so they are the smallest dogs in the world. An adult dog can weigh between 0.9kg – 3kg but usually 2.5kg. They are about 20cm in height.
Chihuahuas can have long straight hair or short hair. They come in a variety of colours from white to black. They all have some white parts.
They are brave, intelligent and great company; they really like attention. They are smart and like to learn.
They recognise only one master and don’t like new people. They can tolerate other animals in the house, but can bite as defence even against bigger animals.
A long- haired Chihuahua needs more attention and care. It is important to look after their gums and teeth. Chihuahuas don’t need lot of walking. They do not eat a lot but could be fastidious about it. Because of their size they need a lot of care from their owner and a vet. The biggest problem is when they produce pups because of their big head.
A Chihuahua is the dog to have for good company; he is the perfect dog for people who don’t have a lot of space and like small dogs. In spite of their small size they are great home dogs and I would recommended them for everyone who wants to care for a small friend.
